The overlay layer

Title, kicker, progress bar, disclaimer, caption band and logo — the layer that stays put while the camera moves.

The overlay is everything anchored to the frame rather than to the chart. It does not move when the camera zooms or pans, so nothing in it can fall out of shot.

Press o for the Overlay tool.

The eight kinds

KindWhat it is
TitleThe headline, with its own scale factor
KickerThe small eyebrow line above it
ProgressA bar showing how far through the video you are
DisclaimerThe permanently visible risk notice
SubtitlesThe caption band — the band, not the cues
LogoYour mark, embedded in the project
TextA free text box, identical to a chart text element but pinned to the frame
CountdownA countdown ring, likewise pinned

Text and countdown exist in both layers on purpose. Drawn on the chart they sit at a price and a column and the camera moves them; placed here they stay put. A ring on the chart gets cut off at high zoom; the overlay one never does.

They are ordinary elements

Click one on the frame, or pick it from the element list. Then move it, rename it, restyle it, reorder it, or give it a start and end candle.

Position is stored as a fraction of the frame, not pixels, so it survives an aspect change and is identical at preview size and export resolution.

Timing is optional. An element with no start candle is visible for the whole video, which is what a title normally wants. Give it one and it uses the ordinary timing model — same fields, same amber/red markers, same timeline bars as anything you draw on the chart.

Two switches, and only one reaches the video

This distinction matters more here than anywhere else in the app:

SwitchWhereReaches the export?
Not in this videoThe element's own panelYes — stored but never drawn
The eyeThe Visible listNo — clears your working canvas only

If you want your logo out of one video, that is the first switch. If it is simply in the way while you draw, that is the second.

The disclaimer is locked

No eye, no timing, no delete

A risk notice that appears for part of a video does not do its job — a viewer arriving mid-scroll never saw it. So the disclaimer has no visibility eye, no start or end candle and no "not in this video" switch, and it is clamped inside the frame so it cannot be dragged out of view.

Reword it to whatever your jurisdiction and your content require, and move it wherever you like on the frame. Its presence is not adjustable.

If you are publishing trade content, date it too. A chart with no date invites the assumption that it is current.

Title and kicker

The kicker is the small line above the title. The title's scale sizes it independently of everything else, which is how the same element serves both a small explainer title and a quiz's large question banner.

On 9:16 the top of the frame is usually the right home for both: the bottom belongs to captions and the platform's own interface.

The caption band

The band's look is an overlay element; the cues are not — they belong to the soundtrack. Style the band here or under Voice & Subtitles, which is the same set of controls reached from beside the cues themselves.

Also an element here, which is why it can be timed and reordered like anything else. What lives under Appearance → Logo is the brand kit's logo slot — the identity that gets stamped into a project, not the copy sitting in this one.

See logo, product mark and safe areas for the ChartBuilder mark on free exports, which is a different thing again and is not part of this layer at all.
