Your projects and your data
What lives in your browser, what lives on our servers, and how to get either one out.
A short map of what is where, because the answer is unusual: almost everything is on your own device.
On your device
- Projects — candles, elements, camera, overlay, narration text, subtitles, settings.
- Audio — recorded takes, uploaded music, uploaded sound effects.
- Preferences — grid, crosshair, panel widths, timeline height.
None of this is uploaded. It lives in your browser's own storage for this site.
Clearing site data deletes it. So does a browser-wide clear, and so does closing a private window. Export the projects you care about.
On our servers
- Your account — email, name, plan, role.
- Brand kits — logo, palette, element styles. The one editor feature that syncs.
- Feedback you send through the in-app widget.
- Waitlist entries, if you joined the waiting list before signup opened. The list is discontinued; existing entries are still stored and can be removed on request.
Every one of those rows is scoped to your account at the database level, not merely in the interface.
What passes through our servers without being stored
Speech synthesis — the text of a line goes to the provider and audio comes back. The audio is stored in your browser.
Transcription — the audio of your take goes to the provider and text comes back. The take itself stays in your browser.
Uploaded audio never reaches our servers
Music and sound effects you upload stay on your device. That is what makes ChartBuilder a tool rather than a host: there is nothing for us to take down and no user-content licence for us to ask you for. The rights responsibility for what you upload is yours, and the upload interface says so.
If audio cloud sync is ever built, that changes, and the Terms will be rewritten before it ships.
Deleting your account
Account → Delete account. This removes your account row, your brand kits and your entitlement. It is not reversible.
It does not touch the projects in your browser — we cannot reach them. Clear the site data if you want those gone too.
Third parties
The full list, with what each one does, is in the privacy policy. In short: a payment processor, a speech provider, an email sender, a database and hosting provider, and privacy-friendly analytics on the marketing pages.
There is no advertising network and no cross-site tracking.
